The officers of the Board of Education shall be a Chair, a Vice-Chair, and a Secretary
The Chair and the Vice-Chair shall be elected by a majority of the members of the Board at
the first meeting in January for a term of one year and shall serve until a successor has been
duly elected. In the event that a Chair and Vice-Chair are not elected in January, the
existing Chair and Vice-Chair shall continue to serve. A vacancy in either position
created by death, resignation, or other cause shall be filled by an election for the remainder
of the one-year term.
The Chair shall preside at Board meetings and perform all the duties set forth in state law
or by action of the Board of Education.
The Vice-Chair shall preside in the absence of the Chair and shall perform other duties as
assigned by the Board of Education.
The Superintendent is designated to act as the Secretary of the Board of Education according
to Georgia law and is responsible for maintaining the minutes of board meetings.
