DeKalb County School System Board Policy
Policy AF: School Day   Print Policy
 

A minimum instructional schedule of five and one half hours for kindergarten through third grade and a minimum instructional schedule of six hours for grades four through twelve shall be provided for each school day.  Periods for homeroom, lunchroom, and other activities shall be scheduled in addition to the instructional schedule.  The Superintendent may make scheduling changes to the school day that meet applicable legal requirements, the rules of the State Board of Education and the accrediting agencies.

Each principal shall develop and submit a schedule to the Superintendent that includes the time that students shall report and the time the school day shall be completed, as well as instructional periods and periods for homeroom, lunchroom, and other activities.

Courses and activities in addition to the minimum instructional schedule for the school day may be provided for students who elect to register for them.

Each student in the DeKalb County School District shall be afforded the opportunity to recite the “Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America” during each school day.

Each teacher shall work a scheduled and supervised program of a minimum of 40 hours per week.  The schedule for teachers shall conform to Board policy and rules of the State Board of Education.
